Making Youth Snowboard Safe
By vfto on Jun 23, 2008 in Sports
Your child comes home one day and tells you that he’s going to be a professional snowboarder when he grows up. Are you thrilled that he has found something to be passionate about or are you terrified that he’s interested in a dangerous sport? Probably a little bit of both.
Luckily, you can support your child in this sport and ease your own worries by making sure that you do all that you can to encourage safety in the sport. Here are some things that you can do to make your child safer when learning to snowboard:
- Get the right youth snowboard gear. It’s not just helmets that make this sport safe. Research good snowboards, gloves and even kids snowboard jackets. Even child ski wear can be made with safety features that reduce the risks of the sport to the body.
- Foot the bill for snowboarding lessons. These can be expensive but they’re worth the cost because they’ll teach your kid what he needs to know to be safe on the slopes.
- Consider learning to snowboard yourself. You’re going to understand the risks better and be able to teach your child about them if you know what playing the sport is like. Be adventurous but be safe!
We all wish that we could protect our kids forever but that’s not the reality of life. Instead, we have to encourage their interests while doing all that we can to keep them safe.
