Car Seats for Dogs: An Animal Safety Issue or Just Plain Dumb?

When you get behind the wheel of a car or you ride as somebody else’s passenger, there are certain laws in place that help to keep you as safe as possible, whether you like it or not. Speed limit laws, the seat belt law, airbag laws—these things are designed to keep people a minimum of as safe as possible; whether or not people obey the laws is a whole other thing, but such is the case with dog car seats.

The law says that children under a certain age have to ride in car seats while in the car, but there really are few to no laws about how your dog has to ride in the car. Pets can be a huge distraction and contribute to a great deal of accidents each and every year on the road, but car seats for dogs may help to make those statistics lower by keeping your dog still and out of your way, and keeping them safe in the event of an accident as well.

The ASPCA website, website has a lot of information about laws regarding pets, but car seats for dogs is something that society still seems to be working on. You may be able to find them in your local pet store, but as of yet they are not really legalized or much used except by the most pampered of pooches.
