Stop Letting Bathroom Scales Dictate Self-Esteem

Many people find themselves struggling with self-esteem problems resulting from concerns about their weight. Both men and women suffer from weight and body image issues that can hinder their ability to put their best foot forward in life. One of the biggest sources of stress for these people is the numbers displayed on their bathroom scales.

Although scales can be great bathroom accessories and are useful in assisting individuals with monitoring their weight loss goals and achievements, over-use of scales can erode self-esteem. Your body weight is going to fluctuate throughout the week. If you punish yourself for gaining a pound, you can cause your whole day to be thrown off by the numbers.

Even if you’re congratulating yourself for a one-pound weight loss, you could be positioning yourself to do damage to your diet. You think, "I’m doing so well, I’ll enjoy a treat today" and then the scale numbers go back up. With the rise in numbers goes a drop in your self-esteem. Stop stepping out of the bathroom shower and onto the scales each day. Instead of praising yourself for lost weight, praise yourself for sticking to diet goals. The numbers on the scale will drop without you watching over them.
