Scam Artists Are Everywhere

I have met a scam artist and I didn’t even realize it until it was too late. On a quiet, sunny afternoon, my doorbell rang and in front of me were two teenage boys selling magazine subscriptions. It seemed innocent enough and they had all the right paperwork. It seemed legitimate to me. I should have realized something was wrong since I didn’t recognize the name of their school but being new to the area, I just figured I hadn’t heard of the school before. After whipping out my checkbook, the boys told me to write the check to their mom and she’d write one big check to the school. Right there, I should have realized I was being taken advantage of but it wasn’t until weeks later when my magazine never arrived that I accepted I was scammed.

Now, when the doorbell rings, I have a hidden camera at the front porch to see who is trying to talk to us. With the cctv camera, I can see whose arrived and can go to the door and respond if I recognize the visitor. We no longer answer the door to strangers which keeps me from having to have uncomfortable conversations with people trying to solicit door to door. The scam experience made me fear for my families’ safety but having a security camera has changed how I feel about dealing with solicitors.

My First Office Halloween Party

Tonight will be my first office Halloween party.  I’m nervous because I don’t know what to expect.  Everyone was keeping quiet on what their Halloween costumes were, because we are having a contest and everyone wants theirs to be a surprise, so I don’t know if I’ll be overdressed or underdressed.  Either way it’s kind of a scary thought.

We’re having the party tonight after the store closes (closing time is 6pm).  The ones who don’t work today (like me) are supposed to come around 7pm, to give the closers time to get cleaned up and get dressed in their own costumes.  We don’t have a big store or anything, so there shouldn’t be many people, which is good — I’m not very good around lots of people.

Possibly part of my problem is that I feel rather exposed in my costume.  I got fairy wings and put together a fairy costume with a ballerina-looking outfit, and I’m going to paint around my eyes with glitter makeup, like circus paint or the way masquerade masks look (you know, the little gold half-masks, except mine will be silver).

If you want to see how I’m doing my makeup, here’s a how-to video of how to create a fairy makeup look:

Besides the costume contest, we’re also going to play a few Halloween games and, of course, pig out on lots of candy.  A few of us are planning on hitting the bars afterward.

I guess it should be fun.  I just hope I can stop feeling this nervous at some point tonight!

Back in the Day

In the background, I hear my father watching the Rifleman.  For those of you that don’t know, the Rifleman is about a man by the name of Lucas McCain that owns a small ranch and is raising his young son Mark.  He helps out the people of his town when they need help with the aid of his trusty rifle.

That was a much simpler time.  People didn’t have to worry about their vehicles like people worry over today.  Back then, a bug deflector was your hand, or the brim of your cowboy hat.  Ladder racks were the carts that you pulled into town to haul stuff on.

Today, people obsess over auto accessories as much as they do over their own personal appearance.  Cars and truck to me are functional items, much like a horse and buggy.  Back in the day, a horse didn’t need to be pretty; it just needed to be healthy and strong.  The same went for the cart you rode into town.

People have gotten too wrapped up in appearance and accessories as opposed to functionality.  I can understand wanting your car to look good, but the important thing is to have a reliable vehicle and not worry about whether your vehicle is more ticked out than your neighbors.

Ensure Comfort with Your CPAP Supplies

You might not be as comfortable as possible if you have improperly sized or styled CPAP equipmentCPAP machines are designed to provide the user with continuous positive airway pressure and used to keep the upper airway splinted open during sleep so as to alleviate sleep apnea symptoms.  Proper air pressure levels cannot be established without correctly fitting CPAP masks or sleep apnea masks.  Material composition of the CPAP masks can also assist in the proper fit of such equipment as well.  For example, gel GPAP masks typically conform more to the face of the wearer.

Most CPAP masks are triangular in shape and are placed over the nose of the wearer.  These are referred to as nose masks.  However, other options include nasal pillows and full face masks.  These CPAP masks come in different sizes, much like clothing.  If you need a medium mask instead of a small mask, it is important that you then order the properly sized mask.

Not only can the mask be uncomfortable, if it doesn’t fit right it may also leak excessively.  This can actually negate the majority of the work that CPAP equipment is designed to complete.  In addition to not providing your upper airway with the air pressure it needs, excessive leaks can actually go on to irritate the eyes of the wearer.

Cat Fight!

I have been dating this girl for well over a year now, and so far everything had been going really smoothly. She is probably one of the most laid back chicks I have ever met. We do have disagreements occasionally (really, who doesn’t?), but we have never really had a fight. There has never been any yelling or screaming, and I would never picture her as being physically violent.

Well that is until this past weekend. We came down from the hills and met another couple for dinner. After dinner we went to a bar that had an outdoor patio. While we were out there my girlfriend maybe had one or two too many cocktails (I was the designated driver that night) and she was getting into a heated debate with the other girl in out party. Never argue politics at a bar! Anyway a drink got thrown in her face, and she came out swinging.

I tried to get her out of there, but we were detained by the bouncer until the police arrived. She was arrested, and I had to spring into action quickly. After lots of apologizing, the other couple decided not to press any charges, but my girlfriend had already been arrested. I contacted a Los Angeles bail bonds company because in California bail bonds are the cheaper way to bail someone out. I had to cough up 10% of the amount to the bail bondsman, but I got her out of jail.
